He was the first of eight Lord Howards of Wicklow and founded the great mansion of Shelton near Arklow. Ralph Howard was an educated and cultured man, well travelled and on personal terms with the great and famous of his day.
He lived the life of the connoisseur, learning to appreciate fine food, fine wine and fine art. An avid collector, his home at Shelton became a virtual treasure house of art during his lifetime. His entertainment at Shelton was legendary for its lavishness. The house even had its own private brewery. We believe that there is no finer patriot for our Restaurant .
Our ambition is to continue the great tradition of Howard's life - 'Exceptional Food and wine.' With this in mind we are a Feile Bia accredited Hotel and every effort is made to use Food that is Irish produced and locally sourced.
